The Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships is one of the biggest horse-racing days in the world and with US millions on offer in purses and awards, it is also the richest. Eight races culminate in the Breeders' Cup Classic. The culmination of the racing season and largely determining the sport's year-end champions, the Breeders' Cup races were first run in 1984 and have since become the biggest day of international racing in the States. National pride is at stake as top thoroughbred horses from all over the world compete in a variety of different classes. Aside from the Classic, the other races are the Juvenile and the Juvenile Fillies, the Sprint, the Mile, the Turf, the Distaff and the Filly & Mare Turf for females aged three and above. Unusually for horse racing, the championship is a mobile event, touring America's top racecourses. |
