Chepstow Racecourse, the Capital Racecourse of Wales, is positioned within the grounds of historic Piercefield Park amidst 400 acres of picturesque parkland and stages racing all year round on the flat and over jumps. The venue is easily accessible from many parts of the UK with excellent rail and road links, easily reached from the M4 and M5, close to Bristol and Cardiff airports and less than 2 hours from London.
Chepstow Racecourse has been the scene of so many exciting and famous events:
- In 1933, Sir Gordon Richards set a world record at the course when he rode eleven consecutive winners at a two-day meeting
- In 1990 Frankie Dettori became the first teenager since Lester Piggott 35 years earlier to achieve 100 winners in a season
- The great Piggott himself rode his comeback winner at Chepstow at the age of 54 after five years in retirement
- On Chepstow turf, Pat Eddery became the first jockey for 38 years to ride 200 winners in a season
- In 1992, Richard Dunwoody rode five winners out of six races at one meeting
Chepstow racecourse hosts: The Coral Eurobet Welsh National, The Tote Silver Trophy, The Rising Stars Novices' Chase, The Tote John Hughes Rehearsal Chase, The Finale Juvenile Hurdle, The Welsh Champion Hurdle (National Hunt) and The Golden Daffodil Stakes (Flat). The National Hunt is left-handed and undulating, going can be very testing and the circuit is 1m 7f. The Flat is left-handed oval, undulating 1m 7f round with 41/2 run-in. Races up to 1m on straight course. Tends to extremes of going.
How to get to ChepstowBy Car: The racecourse is on the A466 Chepstow to Monmouth road, not far from the Severn Bridge. From the M4, take the M48 and exit at Junction 2.
By Train: Chepstow railway station is approximately one and a half miles from the racecourse. Direct services operate from Birmingham and Cardiff, from London via Newport, and Briston via Severn Tunnel Junction. Bristol Parkway is a 20 minute drive away.
By Bus: The Chepstow to Monmouth bus stops at the course.
By Air:Bristol Airport - approximately 30 miles. Cardiff Airport - approximately 45 miles. Helicopters may land on the Racecourse by prior arrangement with the racecourse office.
