No racecourse in the world has a more historic setting than Chester's Roodee. The first official records of horse racing at Chester date back to the early 16th century, making it the country's oldest racecourse. Chester is also one of Britain's most appealing spectator courses. Visitors to the County Stand are treated to the magnificent panorama of the Roodee, the wide sweep of the River Dee and the Welsh Hills beyond. But Chester isn't just the oldest racing site in Britain - at 239 yards it also provides the shortest run in the country, allowing jockeys no time or space for last minute spurts! The prestigious May Meeting is a three day affair that boasts the Chester Vase, Chester Cup and the Ormonde Stakes. Ladies Evening, on June 8, features three fashion shows with clothes by top fashion designers as well as make-up and beauty demonstrations. The Flat season continues throughout the summer months with both day and the evermore popular evening meetings. By Car: Chester Racecourse is south east of the town.
