Epsom Downs is home to the richest and most prestigious flat race in Europe - the Vodafone Derby. Run over a mile and a half, it is the race that owners, trainers and jockeys dream of winning. The Vodafone Derby meeting also includes two Group 1 classics, the Vodafone Oaks and the Vodafone Coronation Cup where the top fillies and older horses battle out their 'Derby' equivalents. Dress code in the Queen's Stand on Vodafone Derby Day, Morning Dress or Service Dress is obligatory for Gentlemen whilst Ladies are asked to wear formal day dress and hats. In the Grandstand and on other Racedays, the dress code is smart casual throughout. On the Hill - anything goes!
The Flat is a left-handed, U-shaped course of 1m 4f, noted for steep undulations. 31/2 f run-in with pronounced camber, initially downhill, rising in the final furlong. Races of up to 81/2 f are essentially sharp, especially on the 5f track which is the fastest in the world. Effect of the draw: low numbers are favoured in 6f, 7f and 1m races. How to get to Epsom:By Car: Epsom Downs is two miles south of Epsom on the B290 Tadworth Road. If traveling on the M25 take either junction 8 or 9 where AA signposts direct you to the course. You will find coloured signage near to the course directing you to the appropriate car park - we recommend you book car-parking in advance for the Vodafone Derby Meeting.
By Train: From London Waterloo or London Victoria take a train to Epsom where buses and taxis will take you to the course. Alternatively Tattenham Corner Station is a 1/2 mile walk from the course.
By Air: Helicopter landing facilities are available by prior arrangement.
PicnicsYou are welcome to take a picnic on The Hill, in the Lonsdale and Upper Tattenham enclosures, and of course in the car parks, but not the main Grandstand Complex. Small barbecues are allowed on The Hill but not in any outer Enclosures or the Walton Area. Dogs are not welcome in any of the enclosures. However, dogs are allowed on The Hill. Please think carefully about bringing a dog in your car if it is a very hot day. It is essential to make sure that your dog is kept under control at all times.
