Fontwell Park is recommended as the perfect venue for novice racegoers to gain their first taste of horse racing. The informal atmosphere makes visitors feel relaxed and welcomed, so much so that the Racegoers Club have recently voted Fontwell Park the 'Best Small Racecourse in the South East' for the thirteenth successive year.
The layout of the course enables the visitor to keep the horses in sight all the way through the race and they are never very far away from the stands. The unique figure of eight steeplechase course allows racegoers to get close to the action and watch horses leaping from fence to fence.
There are many food, drink and betting outlets to choose from and in warmer weather the centre of the course turns into a huge picnic park.
The Collins Stewart National Spirit Hurdle is the highlight of Festival Trials Day in February. Recent winners include Baracouda and Lady Cricket. The supporting card attracts many old favourites and up-and-coming stars. Also part of the race calendar is the Southern National on the New Year's Eve meeting.
The National Hunt is a left-handed hurdle course of about 1 mile. The Chase course is a unique figure of eight course around 1 mile.
